Get additional Learn to Play lessons

GarageBand includes a complete series of Learn to Play lessons that teach you the fundamentals of guitar and piano. One guitar and one piano lesson are preinstalled on your Mac, and you can download additional lessons in GarageBand. You can also purchase and download Artist Lessons, featuring songs taught by the artists who made them famous.

You can choose additional lessons to download in the Project Chooser. You can preview Artist Lessons before you purchase or download them.

Download additional lessons

  1. Choose File > New.

  2. In the Project Chooser, click Lesson Store.

  3. Click Guitar Lessons or Piano Lessons, depending on which instrument you’re using.

    Lessons you can download appear in the main area of the window.

  4. Click the tile for a lesson or a series of lessons to see information for that lesson or series.

  5. To download a lesson, click the Download button, or click the Download All button to download a series of lessons.

    The lesson begins to download. A progress bar shows the status of the download. After the download is finished, double-click the lesson to open it.

Purchase and download Artist Lessons

  1. Choose File > New.

  2. In the Project Chooser, click Lesson Store.

  3. Click Artist Lessons.

    Artist Lessons for both guitar and piano appear in the main area of the window. You can scroll to see additional lessons.

  4. Click an Artist Lesson to see the preview page for the lesson.

  5. On the preview page, click the Play button to start the preview. You can use the other controls to adjust the volume, and move forward or back in the preview.

  6. To purchase the Artist Lesson, click the Buy Now button (showing the price) for the lesson.

  7. Do one of the following:

    • If you’re signed in to the Lesson Store, the lesson begins downloading. A progress bar indicates the status of the download. After the download is finished, double-click the lesson to open it.

    • If you’re not signed in, enter your Apple ID and password in the Sign In window, then click Sign In.

    • If you’re a new customer, click “Create Apple ID now,” enter your user information and click Continue, then enter your payment information and click Buy Now. You can then use your account to buy lessons, buy merchandise in the Apple Online Store, and buy media in the iTunes Store.

Pause downloading a lesson

  • Click the Pause button to the right of the progress bar.

    To resume the download, click the Pause button again.

Delete a lesson

  1. Select the lesson in the Project Chooser.

  2. Press the Delete key.

  3. Click Remove in the dialog that appears.

    You can delete a lesson while it’s downloading or while waiting for a download to begin. You can also delete a lesson that has been previously downloaded.
